Knowledge and Wisdom

Immanuel Kent is of the opinion that "Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life." Anton Chekhov opined "Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice." Thus, knowing what is attained or achieved should be used in a meaningful way. Books are not the only way of enriching our knowledge. Even experience also plays an important role behind increasing the power of knowledge as mentioned in the proverb 'Knowledge is power.'

According to Albert Einstein "Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. " Knowledge and wisdom are related to each other. Neither knowledge is related to information nor wisdom to creativeness, rather both are similar if information what is gained is utilized properly by creating something valuable and useful. Since our childhood, our parents, teachers and elders have taught us that knowledge comes by studying books. In fact, we were told that books are the only prime source of instructions and knowledge that will help us to reach the pinnacle of success. But knowledge does not only mean 'learning' but it also means 'sharing. '

Besides books, television, internet and other social networking sites are also the sources of information if used properly. Indeed, parents are also rich sources of information and wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to make sensible decisions and judgements because of our knowledge or experience. Experience comes with the situations and how we face and tackle them which also brings knowledge and that what helps us to make a wise judgement. However, in recent times knowledge is misused sometimes and in this world of globalization, the new generation is moving at such a rapid flow that there comes a gap between the old and new generations which is usually termed as 'age gap. ' Being educated or literate does not mean 'show off' or making feel others 'inferior' but it means to make others know the importance of acquiring knowledge, being literate and feel superior.

Wisdom is associated with attributes such as compassion, self-knowledge, non-attachment and virtues such as ethics and benevolence. Our elders incarnate in ourselves the seed of wisdom and it is us who need to harvest and nurture the seed to become wise. Similarly, knowledge with wisdom is a perfect blend for the development of self -personality by acquisition of manners, presenting oneself disciplined, well-behaved, possessing all the qualities of a gentleman, paying respect, reverence, love to all whether poor or rich and sharing information among each other as we have learnt in Moral Science in our schools since childhood.
