MIDNIGHT BROTHERS

It was a moonless night with the clouds covering the sky when a young woman with her face carefully hidden under her shawl and securely holding her newborn twin boys in her arms went towards the isolated field which divided the temple and the mosque. Her eyes were swollen with tears, her lips still trembling, but the fear of not getting accepted back in the society made her keep her newborns in that field. Before turning her back, she bestowed all her motherly love for those two little bunch of joys, who were unaware of getting orphaned. She put off her pendant and her armlet and put it on each on each boy and left silently. The next day as the morning broke and the sun ray wiped away the dark night, The Pandit and the Maulvi came towards the field as they heard two cries. They both came forward only to see two beautiful baby boys crying. The Pandit took the one with the pendant and the Maulvi took the
